blog wanderlust whimsy megan wedding proposal
Ah guys! I don't even know where to start! My heart is all a flutter and I'm super excited! It's been hard keeping this a secret for two weeks, but I wanted to make sure all our close friends and family knew before we went announcing it to the world (though if you follow me on instagram you got an early sneak peek). Anyways! Words cannot describe how over the moon I am! Greg is now my fiance! Woohoo!

It all happened on July 11th, and I will say this, I was caught completely off guard! Keep in mind it was only a month ago when I had my proposal psych out, so I was pretty darn sure Greg wasn't going to propose. In fact I was having a pretty crummy day because I woke up and couldn't find my dog. Nothing is worse than waking up and thinking your dog has run away (luckily he was hiding in the backyard and nothing bad happened). So when Greg suggested we take outfit photos to take my mind off my bad day, I thought nothing of it. BOY WAS I WRONG.

After taking lots of outfit photos we had lost the lighting and I was ready to head back to the car. On the way out I got distracted by some daisies and started to snap some photos. A second later I could hear Greg say behind me "Hey hun", so I turned around and there he was on one knee! The minute I saw this I began to cry (like, full on ugly crying). Then in true Megan fashion, the first thing out of my mouth was "Is this really happening?!" followed by a lot more happy tears. Finally when he asked me to be his wife I awkwardly exclaimed "Of course I will stupid!" to which I instantly thought -wow, way to keep it classy Megan-. I think Greg was surprised by my answer so when he said "What?" I replied with "...of course I will!" and tried to pretend like I never said the 'stupid' part... but we both know I did, haha! I was a hot mess. But his proposal was absolutely wonderful.

I was so happy it took place at Cullen Gardens too because we always go there for walks when we want to have a romantic evening. It also means a lot to us because Cullen Gardens was a big part of our childhood before it closed down and became an overgrown and abandoned park. Reminiscing about our childhood is one of the things we always do when there, and now we will always reminisce about our proposal too!

However, the funniest part of the evening was when we were leaving and we ran into a group of 6 or so photographers walking to their cars. One of the older ladies saw that I had been crying and stopped to ask what was wrong. I told her nothing was wrong and that Greg had just proposed and she screamed out "OH MY GOD SHE JUST GOT ENGAGED!!!" and then proceeded to give Greg and I giant hugs. haha. Thank you super sweet stranger lady, I will always remember you when I tell the story of my engagement and how cute you were. The other photographers all stopped to congratulate us and when she left the sweet older lady said the best piece of advice she could give us from her 35 years of marriage was to never go to bed angry and always say I love you. Bless her heart.

As for a wedding date, it won't be for a while because Greg and I want to settle down in a nice house first. That being said, we're thinking June 2015 will probably be when we tie the knot! It's so exciting that I get to marry such a great guy, and my best friend! I can't wait to be Mrs. Megan Thursby!

Until then, I hope you all have a day as wonderful as mine is!

Hey guys, sorry for the 2 week hiatus on the blog lately. I decided I needed to take a small break because of some crazy family stuff going on. But here I am! And I've got some super exciting news to share with you tomorrow so be sure you stop by!

As for what I've been doing with my time away from the computer... well honestly, majority of the time I've spent sitting outside reading World War Z and tending to my garden which I'm super proud of this year. All my flowers have grown amazingly and they are so bright and cheerful! So I took a few pictures to share. Enjoy!

As with all my other wishlists, this month's is an eclectic mix of pretty things. Looking at this list I think it's safe to say cut outs, scallops, gold and graphic prints are my recent musings, but I'm also really loving all things retro as I *FINALLY* got around to watching Mad Men. I've only watched 5 episodes but I'm hooked. And if this book could help me achieve all the cute hairstyles from that show then I'd be set for life!

What's on your wishlist this month?

Alright kids, I like to keep it real here on Wanderlust & Whimsy so I'm going to come right out and say it...
I hate pants. I hate how they accentuate my thighs, I hate having to hem them because I'm short, and most importantly I hate how impossible it is to find a pair that will stay up on these big ole birthing hips of mine (dear clothing companies: please add 1 damn inch to the top of your pants!) That being said, pants can also be great if you're a curvy girl like me and you just don't feel like dealing with chub rub. So here I am. In pants. Which I hate. But you know what? That's ok. Because I've figured out the best way to combat my pants problem is by wearing an awesome nerdy t-shirt!

blog wanderlust whimsy megan outfit details
I know, I know. Everyone loves cute dresses, but I'd be lying to you and myself if I didn't say I LOVE my nerdy t-shirts and I enjoy wearing them just like this. Nothing fancy; no crazy heels, no sparkly jewelry, no gorgeous hairstyles. Nope. This is me through and through. One day I'll be super girly and the next super nerdy, that's just who I am! Not to mention I'm a GIANT Doctor Who fan, so buying this shirt was a no brainer.

As for accessories, I tend to keep things simple when I'm out and about. The bracelet I wore because the marble part reminds me of the Weeping Angels and my bag (which you are probably sick of seeing) has turned into my trusty camera bag. Then I threw on some studded black flats and my pink glasses and I was set for a day of cemetery exploring on one of the hottest days we've had this summer. (Oh boy was it hot!)

I've noticed that during the summer I have a lot more patience when it comes to painting my nails in creative ways. And since I don't work at Disney anymore, I can really go wild with colours and designs! The inspiration for these nails was a combination of my love for this gorgeous red colour from Julep and my love for everybody's favourite 'genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist' Tony Stark, aka Iron Man.

I decided to keep the design simple though. I've seen Iron Man nails done in the past where people will paint the design of his suit on their nails and his face mask on their thumb, but I went for a more simplified and abstract version. That way I can keep my fangirling at a classy level. haha!

Nails: Iron Man

In an old house in Paris covered by vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines.
They left the house at half past nine. 2 straight lines, in rain or shine. The smallest one...was Madeline.

So... funny story about what happened on the day these photos were taken:

In the morning I had received a few texts from Greg who was acting especially sappy and excitable that day. It was a very strange thing because he is never all these things at once so I thought something might be up. He had asked me if I wanted to go to Cullen Gardens with him and told me I should bring my camera. At first I was like ok, no big deal. We're just going for a walk like we always do. But the way he was acting had me suspicious. So then I started thinking of what he could have planned and I started to think: Oh man, I wonder if he's going to propose (I've been watching a lot of bridal shows on TLC when nothing else is on so that's why my mind went there.) Anyways, I threw on a nice outfit and we headed to the park.

blog wanderlust whimsy megan outfit ootd what I wore modcloth red white and cute blue yellow hive and honey how soon is wow
During the car ride I decided to ask Greg why he was acting so strange that day. I mean, being in a good mood isn't what had me suspicious. It was the fact that when Greg is REALLY excited about something secretive, he has a hard time hiding it. Turns out he was just in a good mood and the good mood plus the uber sappiness was a coincidence. I told him about my crazy notion about him proposing and he laughed but felt a little bad for leading me on (seriously he wasn't. Like I said before I've watched one too many episodes of Say Yes To The Dress).

blog wanderlust whimsy megan outfit ootd what I wore modcloth red white and cute blue yellow hive and honey how soon is wow
Anyways, when we got to the park we decided to take a few outfit photos since I already had my camera and was wearing a cute outfit. The best part however was when we looked over at one of the main buildings and saw the writing on the wall from what I assume was an engagement photoshoot. I pointed it out to Greg and died of laughter because of our earlier conversation. What were the odds of that happening?! It was the funniest thing and we both got a good laugh out of it. I then made Greg take my picture in front of it as a joke because I couldn't get over how funny it was.

So yes, that is the story of my non-existant proposal :)

And if you're wondering where I got the title for the outfit, I give full credit to Bere because she left a comment on my instagram saying this dress with these shoes reminded her of Madeline. And I completely agree. Plus I adored that show as a child.
